Hearing Aids Side Effects

There are a number of potential side effects associated with hearing aids. While not everyone experiences these side effects, they are worth being aware of before making the decision to start using hearing aids.

The most common side effect of wearing hearing aids is fatigue. This is because wearing hearing aids requires users to concentrate harder on listening and can be tiring over time.

Other side effects can include tinnitus, dizziness and ear infections.

Tinnitus is the perception of sound (often ringing) in the ears or head when there is no actual external source for this noise. This side effect can occur even if a person has never had problems with their hearing before, so it is important to be aware of it before starting to use hearing aids.

Dizziness is another common side effect, which can be caused by the change in pressure that occurs when a person puts on a hearing aid. This pressure change can also lead to ear infections in some cases.

While all of these side effects can be concerning, it’s important to note that many of them can be prevented by ensuring your hearing aids fit well and that you take care of them correctly. This includes cleaning and drying hearing aids as well as using earplugs when swimming.

Having a good support network is also key in helping people adjust to their new hearing aids, so consulting with family and friends about how you’re feeling and learning about how to manage the side effects you might be experiencing can also help reduce these symptoms.

Finding out what options are available and discussing them with your doctor is the best way to find a hearing aid that is right for you and helps minimise any potential side effects.
